With the arrival of the vessel Hanjin Lima on Monday October 18, Iquique International Terminal (ITI) added to its customer base a large group of shipping companies that will serve routes between the East and the West Coast of South America.
Hanjin Shipping, China Shipping, CMA-CGM, and Hyundai Merchant Marine form this new joint service team that will call at the terminal, and it will operate 10 ships.
Of these, China Shipping is among the top ten worlds shipping container transport, while Hanjin Shipping is ranked as the fifth largest in the world.
ITI CEO, Fernando Ugarte, stated that this is very good news for the city because these ships join Iquique on their itinerary of call. This fact confirms the importance of this port, which is due to the great prospects for the cargo operations generated by the Iquique Duty Free Zone. Also, this improves the probability of cargo traffic coming from Bolivian, which in a short term could transit through the bi-oceanic corridor.
The fact that this service has chosen ITI to service their ships corroborates the excellence of its services because it counts on the appropriate and qualified personnel. Furthermore, it proves the result to the investments allotted to equipment and the port facility improvements made to this date have been very successful.
