Await arrival of seven cruisers to the port of Iquique during this season

Port of Iquique Company prepares a seminar about cruisers.

Seven cruisers with more than 250 passengers are expected to arrive in Iquique during October to March, 2012 and 2013.

Information was given by vice president of the Port of Iquique, Hector Mardones, who noted the increased presence of these ships and the advantages of attending to their passengers, considering the movement of shipping companies and tour operators. He said: in season 2011 - 2012 six ships arrived, without any difficulties. In passangers concept this meant 3.048 tourists, increasing to what happened in the period 2010 to 2011.

The executive explained that in Chile, Cruisers traffic increased by 29% with 248 arrivals in national port terminals, especially Valparaiso, Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt and Iquique.

Seminar

To boost the sector and create joint strategies, it will take place in Iquique the seminar "How attract cruise industry in Chile, supply and demand" which is inserted at the 19 meeting of the board of the Ports Corporation Cone South.

The activity will take place on June 15th in the Former Customs office, attending the DMC director, largest cruise operator in the country, Claudio Nast.

The manager of Tarapacá Development Corporation (s) Fernanda Martinez, said that in alliance with Sernatur they look for enhancing tourism in the region to attract visitors of this trasatlantic ships. Felipe Perez, Sernatur, appreciated this meeting will be take place in Iquique.

Ties with Taiwan

Taiwan Businessmen held a business roundtable in Iquique with the participation of Free Zone executives.

In the event attended the president of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Philip Yeh together with Zofri’s President, Mr. Luis Alberto Simian and the Mayor of Iquique Myrta Dubost.

He said “Chinese community chose to do business in Iquique "because it has greater social economy and also has authorities that provide security to the investor.

About Zofri noted that 80% of Taiwanese businessmen who come to Zona Franca, 60% end establishing in the city, and their capital amount to millions of dollars. Taiwan as a supplier country of goods to the Free Zone, amounted to Zofri in 2011 sales of U.S. $ 88 million.
