Directemar Commemorated 164 Years Delivering Excellent Service

The General direction of the Maritime Territory and Merchant (Directemar) celebrated the 164 anniversary of the institution, years in which it has complied with the work of protecting human life in the coastal city and navigation safety.

The ceremony was presided by Cristián Galvez, maritime governor of Iquique.

Also attended the Commander in Chief of the Fourth Naval Zone, Rear Admiral Jorge Cruz, as well as representatives of other branches of the armed forces and police, regional and municipal authorities.

Galvez said that this is a very important date for the naval, but also to the community, given the nature of the services they provide to citizens and maritime users, we have a commitment to service in a maritime region imminently.

He emphasize they have grown in personnel, as well as in bonds that are created with citizens and the responsibilities entrusted environmentally and safety in the inclusion of the Northern Border Plan, as the implementation of Maritime Network of Emergency and Coordination and Datamar2-tsunami, among others.

Daniel Naranjo, Director of Tourism and Culture of Iquique municipality highlighted the work being done in the authorization, evaluation and certification of lifeguards that municipality hires each year, as well as providing security and assistance in the summer season. As a municipality we are grateful for the continued work and support provided, "he said.

Also, Oscar Zambra, president of the Union of Fishermen of Caleta Cavancha also thanked. "To us they are very important because they ensure our safety, and as seaman we always ask for help, they always have done a great work for the safety of many lives, he said.
