Empresa Portuaria Iquique Diversifies Business Strategy

The Port of Iquique has developed new businesses, among which has truck parking, storage and Loading distribution.

As part of its business strategy, the Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) is developing interesting projects whose aims are: to deliver new services associated with the port category and diversify the business.

In Alto Hospicio city, EPI has an area of 3.7 hectares especially conditiones for truck parking. The parking area, which is designed to provide trucking services and help to decongest the city, "has toilets, living room, CCTV and 24 hour security." Hector Mardones, Business Manager of EPI, explained.

Also in the sector, is enabled a "Logistics Center", located on 1.7 acres and has five warehouses of 200 square meters, each one with systems platforms, ramps, doors and lighting.

The storage and distribution center was enabled as the first of three stages. The second, which is already underway, includes the construction of five additional warehouses.

Finally, the company implemented the Housing service or "server hosting" for the support of corporate information.

"This service is unique in the region and was intended as a way to address potential natural disasters," declare Mardones.

The structure, which considers an investment of about $ 100 million, includes among its features to be earthquake resistant construction, have a modern fire protection system and the installation of filters that regulate pollution and temperature.
