Date: 2012/05/03

The environmental assessment commission (CEA) approved the project "depth dredging of berth site N°4 of iquique port", where Iquique International Terminal S.A. will invest four billion dollars that will have a twenty years useful lifetime and would give work to twenty persons.

The project ""depth dredging of berth site N°4 of iquique port"" presented by Iquique International Terminal S.A, aims to increase the depth of the port as part of improving existing facilities, so as to allow the arrival of larger vessels.

In the same way, increasing depth, considers dredging of the Iquique port’s pool, in front of berth site N°4, at a depth of 14.0 meters to the Probe Reduction Level (PRL) from the access area (operations) to the berth site.

According to the area of dumping dredged material referred in this initiative, it is located in front of the port of Iquique at a distance of approximately 10 kilometers northwest of the project area.

Average depth of the area would reach 272 meters to the Probe Reduction Level (PRL).

Dredging operation will be performed by a vessel specially designed and equipped for this kind of work, so, in terms of installation task, the requirements of the respective contractor’s company will be minimal.

The above also is the fact that dredging operation will take a short period of time (not more than fifteen weeks).

Finally, this project also includes an environmental contingency plan, an environmental monitoring plan and a monitoring program of sea lions, in order to verify that these species are not affected by this initiative.
