Iquique is considered one of the regions with greater economic activity and its international terminal is no exception. In it, for example, exported copper Cerro Blanco and Quebrada Blanca and the import of goods from Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.

The main part of the works will be from statal Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI). To 2016 will invest U.S. $ 23 million. The projects are based on the expansion of the site N°4, one end with north at 69 meters, a third berth which will join the two existing, a bridge making a second input from continent to terminal; filling the coastline, with unlimited expansion of growth and filling pools.
