Just 18 minutes take the staff of Iquique Terminal Internacional SA, to reached the safety zone, after the tsunami alarm was triggered, in drill event that took place last Thursday in Iquique.
The Risk Prevention leader of ITI, Patricio Loo, described the event as a very successful exercise since the personnel that was in working area walked out of the place in a completely calm and normal way.
The alarm was activated at 21:16 hours in the city. At that moment operational task were decreasing and only 18 workers were in the terminal. At the same time alarms were activated in the area, through a release received via radio from ONEMI, says Loo.
Two minutes since then, first workers were already at the gate out to address themselves to security zone, which is located about 12 blocks from the terminal, distance walked in 18 minutes.
"We found that preparation work we have been doing with our personnel is satisfactory and these actions allow us to continue improving our procedures and training our staff, so in case to face a real emergency we will face in fitness an eventual catastrophe," concluded Loo.
