After years of struggle and illusions forged Carriers of the port company ITI generate direct contract with Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi, where 56 region truckers will unload one of the largest shovel worldwide, which will be used by the company to digging and loading works.
Over 20 years ago it was launched the exploring project of Cía. Minera Collahuasi mining, beginning their work with local carriers, however, and, after the company began operating, changed own procedural standards large-scale mining in Chile and the world, so it began the constant struggle by local carriers to continue working to achieve this important opportunity to improve their labor source.
The manager of community relations of Collahuasi, Luciano Malhue, highlights the ongoing work by the Defence Command Puerto Iquique, Truckers Union, to reach this important achievement. "This is a transference of direct value to companies in the region. This is a process that comes from many years ago, when it was built Collahuasi project, we work with local carriers, but when the company began its operations, changed procedural standards that are unique to the mining industry in Chile and the world, reason why local carriers must adapt to this process and must prepare themselves several years to gain access to cargo of Collahuasi "said Malhue, who said that this is a test to measure the quality of work of truckers, where if positive, will generate employment opportunities for them.
HIGH LEVEL
This demonstrates the high level representing the 56 regional truckers, plus their competence, process and transport security conditions, making them able to fulfill this task.
Marcelo Esquivel from Defense Command Port of Iquique, says it is a historic event for the locals. "We have 15 years trying to gain access to direct cargo with mining companies, we have always loaded through third parties with a much reduced rate to what is real and as local carriers, shows a giant step forward, thanks to the efforts of Governor and Collahuasi management, which has given us the possibility to enter with our machines and work directly with them with a source of well-paid work, allowing us to change our machines, to give a better service to the short term. "
For his part, Provincial Governor Miguel Angel Quezada thanked the mining company for the opportunity. "I thank Collahuasi mining company, the disposal. In over 20 years, port carriers wanted to work directly with the company and commissioned by our Mayor, we worked with them and they have been flexible to work with our local suppliers. Today we are at an important milestone, 56 trucks leaving the port and we expect our transporters meet a good job so they can continue working with the mining, "he said.
The number of trucks is due to the size of the shovel that is sized in something like a 6-storey building, which is completely disassembled and delay within 3 to 4 months to be assembled.
