Date: 2013/03/04

A group of 20 students of Foreign Trade and Customs Angel Rasmussen Institute, ICA, from Bolivian department of Cochabamba, visited on Friday, March 1 Iquique port facilities to internalize their field of operation and functionality, in addition to the advantages over other terminals in the region.

The group was led by the General Manager of the Regional Chamber of Customs Brokers of Cochabamba, Raúl Terán Mendoza, who thanked the treatment received by the Chilean port and expressed his hope that bilateral relations in this area will become more important.

The CEO of the Regional Chamber of Customs Brokers of Cochabamba and professor in charge of the group of students who visited the port of Iquique, Raúl Terán Mendoza, praised the commitment of Port of Iquique to welcome visitors from the neighboring country in order to learn operations and advantages of this terminal.

"It was an excellent experience. For many years we saw that the only way in and out was the port of Arica, but in recent years it has been open Iquique to Bolivian cargo, which is very important for us, since the idea is to use alternately two ports, "said Teran.

In addition, the head of the Chamber of Customs Brokers said that for this reason it is necessary to strengthen and expand the use of the port directly, beyond Zofri, "which reports more economic gains".

Finally, the engineer said: "We felt that our own institutions are not open to us as much as you."

General Manager of Empresa Portuaria Iquique, Alfredo Leiton Arbea said the port policy of welcoming students and delegations of Bolivia has always been a commitment to the company and confirmed the importance of the integration of the market for the development of Tarapacá.

"The company has always maintained an open door policy for students from Bolivia. Integration is not only closer trade ties but also social, something we want to promote through education, "said Leiton.

The executive also said the port company currently has agreements with various Foreign Trade Chambers from Bolivia, which often send their partners to visit Chilean Ports.
